Canada And The Power Of Us

by Samantha Bacchus McLeod

In all my years in this land, Canada, I have never been so invested in politics. As the world goes madly to the right, descending into a certain kind of hades, all I can think is…every one of us matters.

As the orange monster piles up the bodies of his perceived enemies, as he starts a whole new war on the world…we must come together and show the world our sheer strength in numbers.

Let us not forget for a moment that we are watching a Holokauston – a completely burnt sacrificial offering to their racist regime. We are standing by waiting for something to break, but nothing will break. If anything, the divide grows wider, and each side stands stronger.

This is our new reality.

We may pray for our side to grow bigger.

Prayers are not enough.

We have to make a stand in our neighbourhoods, in our communities, in our provinces and states, in our countries.

We did just that while the world watched to see the outcome of our votes. We did not vote for a party, we voted for strength in the face of absurdity. We voted for a strong economy. We voted for our autonomy. We voted because we are blessed to have that right, no matter our colour or creed, our ideology.

We are just regular Canadians, we don’t agree on much, we are very charmed with our mosaic, our individual heritage shared in this beautiful land of ours. It was not ours by right…but thank you to the true people of this land who continue to let us all coexist in relative peace.

All I can say is this…

Apart we are just a singular oxygenated bubble in a stream.

But together, whoa, together we are as powerful and potent as the crescendoing waves in the oceans that border our land.

The power of change is in our hands, in our wallets, in our kindness, and in casting our votes. Always has been, always will be.

We proved it just recently when we came together in patriotic unity in our direct opposition to the moronic incendiary to the south.

We are Canadians, true and free, and to quote a brilliant novelist…winter is coming, and the Stark truth is…we are more prepared than we know.
