This Smashed Apple Cake Dessert is divine

No dinner is complete without that sweet finish. Guests usually expect it. Go ahead and impress with this dessert I call Smashed Apple Cake.

For me, baking is not a science, really. Much to the utter dismay of my daughter who is an expert baker, and who usually shudders at my techniques, but is always enchanted with the finished product.

I create desserts based on flavours quite often, but not everyone can do that…and to be honest, not every creation is a vast success. There is always a way to re-purpose a dessert that may have gone horribly wrong…that is if there are good flavours in it to begin with, and it was not burnt to a crisp, although…hmmm…nah, do not use blackened crisps on anything.

You can save yourself from buying expensive desserts when you are hosting a dinner party, while impressing your guests with this dessert you literally throw together last minute.

For this dessert, I suggest you make, or buy, a batch of muffins – on the firmer side, crumbly works too – the more texture to play with, the better for the overall success of the dish. Think textures and temperatures for this one.

The cake is basically an apple muffin, some vanilla ice cream we all keep around, a dollop of double Devon cream, a few berries and a sage leaf. Oh yeah, and a quick butter and brown sugar melt.
